Well my wife's 4Runner had a rear differential leak. I did some investigating and the pumpkin has rusted through. A call to my former Toyota dealer and the parts guy tipped me off
Thank you Glen!!
It seems as if this is becoming a common occurrence in 2000 vehicles and older to include Tacoma's.
The solution is to cut the old pumpkin off and weld on a pumpkin cover from a land rover. So common that the Toyota dealer had one in stock!
So I slapped a temporary band aid on the differential of some epoxy and sealed the two holes. Wow the metal is rusted thin...... thank you New England roads and salt in the winter!
Next weekend I will tackle the cut and weld with a friend who has already done one.
I guess I should keep quiet about this or knowing this state they will make me change the registration!!
