I started this project the beginning of December. It has taken up a lot of my spare time from using the computer. I built this for my wife as a Christmas present. She got it and I got the jointer/plainner, belt/disc sander, and a router table to build it. I think she is expecting for me to build new kitchen cabinets after this coming boating season.
All I have left to do is spray a couple of poly coats on it, install the glass, and it will be done. However after many complaints from my better half about all the dust from sanding the oak, I don't think I will spray the bookcase while it is in the basement. I know that I have to refinish the wood trim on the boat this spring so when I spray the trim, I'll spray the bookcase in the garage. I'm glad it is to this point as the weather is finally breaking and it is time to think BOAT! Now I will also have time to spend money here at iboats for some much needed parts this year.
About 80% of the bookcase was recycled oak from a couple of remodeled McDonalds stores. I pulled the wood from the dumpsters.
