My Winter Project (almost done)

I started this project the beginning of December. It has taken up a lot of my spare time from using the computer. I built this for my wife as a Christmas present. She got it and I got the jointer/plainner, belt/disc sander, and a router table to build it. I think she is expecting for me to build new kitchen cabinets after this coming boating season. :D

All I have left to do is spray a couple of poly coats on it, install the glass, and it will be done. However after many complaints from my better half about all the dust from sanding the oak, I don't think I will spray the bookcase while it is in the basement. I know that I have to refinish the wood trim on the boat this spring so when I spray the trim, I'll spray the bookcase in the garage. I'm glad it is to this point as the weather is finally breaking and it is time to think BOAT! Now I will also have time to spend money here at iboats for some much needed parts this year.

About 80% of the bookcase was recycled oak from a couple of remodeled McDonalds stores. I pulled the wood from the dumpsters.

Very nice. I love that simple, classic style. My wife has been pushing me to get back into building furniture too, but the garage isn't heated... brrrr!

Beautiful work!!! Love the deep honey stain. Have you considered hand waxing with beeswax instead of poly? It's a lot more work, and you'll have to do it every year or two, but you just can't match the finish...

Again, beautiful work.

My wife would like that to go and supper size it to.

Good job. I built one of my deck's out of recycled wood from a school that got remodeled.

You do that kind of work for her, and she complains about ANYTHING? Shame on her.

Payback= Remove the shelves. It would make a great gun cabinet. ;)
