After installing a digital speedometer (with time and voltage function) my horn went of if I turn my startkey 1 position (to start instruments) if the engine isn't lowered.
This never occured before (when just having the rpm/trim/oil- multi instrument).
I normally want to start the instruments so I can se how much tilt I have left to lower, its quite anoying doing this to the sound of the horn.
Once the prop is in the water the sound stops.

Any ideas, is normal functionality? (now I know the horn works)

WHat engine and year, maybe it is getting ground thru water but just a wild guess as water is not a good conductor. Maybe some micro switch is closing somewhere or metal to metal contact in the tilt mechanism when prop is submerged.

-Don B

It may be correct for some models. If feasible trim the motor down before turning the switch on. Not likely to be a fault in the system. Sort of like the seat belt horn or light.

Re: Mysterious horn-alarm!

Its a 90 AETOL from 2000.

I guess it could be warning to to start befored having the rigg in the water (kind of logical).

What make me curious is that the horn didn't sound before I added the speedometer. The speedometer only attach to three wires from the control unit.

The other instrument with oil indicator, trim indicator etc have always been connected. This intrument have information of the trimlevel and also have several connection to the unit in the motor (i guess its oil level indicators).
