Im just curious how accurate the nada book values are. Ive looked up a few motors and boats and the prices didnt seem right from what ive seen others sell them for.One of the motors i looked up was only worth 550 and ive seen people selling them for over 1000. Im wondering what some peoples opinions are on this. Im looking at some boats and i just wanna make sure im not paying to much. Thanks

Location alone , saltwater VS freshwater pretty much makes it diffcult to set a value

In some areas there are 10 HP lakes making 10 HP motors have a high value in THAT area

The prices in NADA are average retail prices. Boats in better than average condition will sell for well above the NADA price.

as i said in your other post, waste of time for a boat or motor over 5 years old.

Doesn't it say right on the cover that it is a "Guide" not a "Bible"? You can have three identical boats in three different cities and they will bring vastly different prices. NADA can't see the boat you are pricing so you must take into account its condition. What is mint condition to one person is absolute junk to another. A 150 HP Merc vs a 150 Yamaha or Honda will also result in three very diffent values depending on who is doing the looking. A Honda guy will likely pay more for the Honda powered boat than he wold for the Merc, everything else being equal.

Search nationwide for your motor model and year..
NADA.. well, not so useful in most situations.

Nada is used for relative pricing and negotiating with dealers. Like for an example a 1978 Boston Whaler Montauk hull is priced low $920 to $1000. Try to find one. I do see them with older engines on them but they go for $5000+. The old 90 hp engines aren't worth $4000. Now if the whaler is a fixer I have seen them for $1000, but then you have to rebuild them then it makes it worth more than a $1000. Go figure that one.
