I am currently fitting a set of dashboard dials to my boat. The engine is a 1986 4 cyl merc classic 50.

In a fit of trademark stupidity i shorted a live onto the RPM sender wire and fried the component.
I have identified the part i fried (small cubic electrical box). The grey wire that sends the RMP signal to the control box fastens to it.

The problem is i want to order a new one but have no idea what it is called!

Any help much appreciated....

Ok, so it seems i can get this part 100% cheaper if i order it in the states (I am in the UK)

The dealer (dougrussell.com) says there is no shipping cost?
Does anybody have experince of purchasing US parts for international shipping? Will there be extra to pay like VAT and duty when it arrives on the door step?

Jeremy, A Full Wave Rectifier is a fairly standard electronic component. Every Auto battery charger has one. I fried my Mercury rectifier 20 years ago and replaced it with 25 Amp full wave rectifier that I purchased at a local Radio Shack for $4. The replacement was much better and much cheaper than the Mercury part. The only difference is that the replacement rectifier has four terminals(AC,+,AC,-), versus three(AC,+,AC) on the OEM part. Mercury grounds the fourth terminal to the rectifier body internally. If you buy standard rectifier, will need to ground the "-" terminal to the motor chassis (Negative Earth for you Brits)
