Where have you all placed the name on your boats? Sides, transome, etc.? We are naming our new boat and any input is appreciated. Thanks

Re: name placement

Hi there cthru1. If your boat is documented, the name must go on the bow where your registration numbers would normally go and your home port goes on the stern. Registered boats usually will have the name displayed on the stern, but you can put it anywhere.

Rat,

What is meant by "documented"? I take it that documented is one step beyond registration?

Thanks,

Mark.

Mark42 as an option to registering your boat with the state you can document it with the Coast Guard and never register it again.

More info here.
web page

Re: name placement

Boats that travel a certain distance offshore or go in international waters must be Coast Guard documented, including home port on the transom... correct me if I am wrong.

Rat,

Just a quick note, some states still require registration of the boat whether it is documented or not, there are also rules that determine whether a boat is even eligible for documentation...most fishing/ski type boats are not eligible. BTW, I checked this on the link you gave to be sure...the link is great, thanks.

Just my $0.02 worth,
Joe
