Hey everyone,

I'm trying to pull the S/N off my motor, but have been unable to find the data plate. I've looked everywhere around the starter and all I can figure is it must've fallen off. The boat is a 1995 Glastron SSV 249, I know the motor is a Mercruiser V8, but the numbers on the engine cover over the flame arrestor don't match the outdrive, if that makes sense. So the cover was probably replaced at some point. I know the drive is an Alpha 1 Gen 2. Any help would be appreciated, I'm at a standstill. I've attached a picture of the only numbers on the block I could find besides the firing order. They are just aft of the carb. 14096244

So your drive serial numbers found in these locations don't match the serial numbers on the engine cover? http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engin...serial-numbers

If you have the transom serial number, and the drive serial number. I'm sure someone on here can let you know the serial number of the engine if they were registered properly. (assuming the engine has never been replaced)

found this post maybe a coincidence? http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engin...ifold-14096244

This might be helpful https://www.perfprotech.com/blog/boa...marine-engines

14096244 is the casting number for the intake

right above the starter is the mercruiser data tag which is usually riveted on. it is placed vertically and is hard to read without a mirror.

right above the oil filter is cast the displacement of the motor and the block casting number is on the back of the block by the flywheel housing.

No Title

Yeg, the serial number on the drive doesn't match the number on the engine cover or the bell housing. So it's possible the lower drive and bell housing were replaced at some point I guess. I've attached a pic of the engine cover and drive serial numbers. I did a lookup on perfprotech and the numbers all come back as a 1995 5.7/1995 Alpha 1 Gen 2. So maybe the engine cover is correct and everything else has been replaced. Thanks for the info!

Scott, I've looked everywhere around and between the starter and manifold with a mirror and no luck. I'll see if I can pull the casting number next time I'm at the boat. Since all the numbers I can get match up with the year of the boat maybe (hopefully) the engine number is correct. Thanks!

The only number I don't have is the bell housing, thought it was in my phone but must've been deleted. I do remember it did not match the engine cover or lower drive though.

If you're interested about some basic info about the stern drive, post the drive serial number.

Yeg thanks a lot for that, I appreciate it!! It looks like the cover is correct. That's great!

On the engine block will be a 2 letter code. Find those letters and you can confirm what the engine is.
