Im looking at a boat and the owner thinks its a stock 454 but its got imco headers and differnet intake, does not look like a 454 to me but i could be wrong.

Its in a 2004 commander 26' signature and he says it goes 63 mph at 5500 feet elevation. No way thats a stock 454

Looks like a 500 or 525 to me

thanks guys

What's the Mercruiser serial number for the engine? Should be a tag just above and slightly aft of the starter mount.

the guy doesnt know anything about boats, im not about to try to have him locate a id tag.

so it could be a 454,502 or 525? from the looks of it? or does it not narrow it down that much

The intake plenum gives it the appearance of being a completely revamped 500 efi including the ECM & throttle body, valve covers, etc. The six bolts? on top of the throttle body indicates its not going to be stock from mercruiser as well.

The ECM appears to be either a MEFI 1 or 2 and from what i remember/can tell the 500 EFI engine ran a MEFI 3 that sat behind the intake plenum area covered up in a half box if you will.

It's definitely not the 525 EFI intake plenum, you can tell by the idle air control valve kit (#15) and a whole lot of other components when you start comparing.

Some of the high performance guy's over on offshoreonly forums may recognize this engine builders style of doing things different.

Long shot, but can the owner get the stern drive or/and transom assembly serial number on the outside of the boat then?

Good luck.:)
