I'm driving by this guys house today and I see a for sale sign on an outboard that looked like it came over on the Mayflower. I get excited whenever I see an outboard for sale whether I need it or not. Guy says that it has not run in 40 years to his knowledge but for $25, I couldn't pass it up. I get her home, put her on the bench and start ripping her apart to see if I can figure out what the heck it is. I looked everywhere. The only thing I found engraved on the head was "National Pressure Cooker Company-2.3 HP". Anybody ever heard of one?

Heck yes. It's a Martin 20. Russ Larson at http://www.martinoutboards.com/pricelist.htm without the (") marks bought all the parts from Martin when they stopped making motors. He's da man!

Martin 20s are cool little motors! We have a very nice one in our collection and it is easily the slowest idling motor I have ever run. You can literally sit there and count the revs as it pops over. Unbelievable... Designed by George Martin, the patented poppet valve induction system (no reed valves in a Martin) made for very smooth running and good acceleration characteristics...

Thanks for the info. She is a cool looking outboard. I'll check out that site to get any parts I need and see if I can count the revolutions at idle once she's fired up.
Thanks Again

Do you know a kid who wants to learn? If so, get them involved with your effort to get it runnning again, then do the cosmetic restoration together, too. One of the best/fulfilling things you will ever do.
