Nauticus Smart Tabs broken part

While heading out to the flats this weekend, I noticed the boat was listing rather badly to port. Once in the flats, I got out and tested the port side tab--no resistance from the actuator.

I sent John an email on Saturday, and got a response this (Monday) morning. Email asked me to call them so that they could get my address to send me a new part. I spoke to one of their reps, Greg, and he took my address and said the part would be on its way.

It was just as easy as that. I write this to say that Nauticus not only makes a GREAT product, but they stand behind it. Thanks again to everyone at Nauticus.

Re: Nauticus Smart Tabs broken part

I'm getting a little concerned.

I just bought the SX plastic tabs, but haven't installed them yet.

I'm starting to note posts about the SX tabs breaking, but Nautilus sending out the fixing part quick.

Well, that is nice. But are the SX plastic tabs flimsier? Should I have gotten the stainless?

No holes drilled yet.

I've got the plastic ones and not a single problem and they're awesome. You need to get those things on your boat before you take it out again. You'll be amazed. They're truly that good...

I agree with TD. I'm sure if everyone who owns them chimed in, you'd see that the vast majority don't have any problems. And quite honestly, these tabs improve performance so much that I wouldn't care if they broke every 2 months, so long as the company keeps sending the replacements! But I don't foresee that happening of course.;)

For the record, it was the actuator that broke, not the tabs, pins, or mounts. The plastic pieces seem to be incredibly durable.

We take our boat out on the Sandusky Bay and over to Cedar Point. My wife said she didn't want to go out on Lake Erie any more because she could handle the rough ride. I told her I was going to put the tabs on the bout to see if it might help. We went up this past weekend and she said it was like a different boat, the boat was cutting through the waves instead of riding over
them. Smart tabs really work out for us.

Re: Nauticus Smart Tabs broken part

I broke both of them in one day skipping across about 1' chop across the river / sound. The company was great and hooked me up with a pair of metal ones. Apparently they've changed the design a little but still don't recommend the plastic ones for going over 50 or 60 mph. there was / is a marked improvement in the way the boat takes chop with them on, I can plane several mph slower and it really cut down on bow rise on take off.
