Working in the boat today and knocked over a couple of tools. Somehow my cutoff wheel turned on when it flipped over on its side and put a cut in the hull. Fortunately I grabbed it quick and it didn't go all the way through but I don't know how close it came. It is on the curve from the inner chine. This is where the hull is starting to curve in and up towards the bow. How large a patch do I need to put over the cut and I assume 1708 with 2 layers? I will be using epoxy for the repair.

I would fill it with some hairy thickened resin, then do 2 layers of 1708 first one covering the gouge then the 2nd extending over that.

I had a crack in my hull around the same area. After grinding it out I did the same repair on the inside. Since mine went all the way through I also had to do a repair on the outside.

Agreed.----Sand the area.------Just one 4"X4" patch of 1708 and stronger than it was new.

Great, thanks for the info... I have exiled my cutoff wheel to the back of the shop far away from the boat... Decided that I can do what needs to be done with my oscillating tool and do the job better with it...

Oscillating tools work great for removing stuff. Although cutoff wheels also work great for boats and for making you realize the kids took all the bandaids and you need to find the duct tape 😅. (Experience has shown me this). Just make sure the tool is unplugged when not in use. I know its inconvenient when working, but fingers are more convenient.
