hey guys, i have a '94 Merc 5.0 that i need to almost pin the throttle to get started. Roughly 3/4 or more throttle and the motor finally stumbles it way to running. This is the case EVERY time regardless of the motor is cold or warm. However once running, it idles, accelerates runs great..Ive tried turning key the after pumping the throttle first, not pumping the throttle, in neutral, at 1/4 & 1/2 throttle and it will NOT start til i advance the throttle way up, :confused:like i said 3/4-7/8 throttle and it fires up and then of course i have to immediately back it down so i dont over rev.. any ideas what i need to look into here? appreciate it!

Re: nearly full throttle to start motor?

The symptoms indicate a flooding condition. Check for fuel leaks or fuel dribbling into carb.

Maybe the choke is stucking. Many of the engines once you push it that far there is a cam which opens the choke a bit.

the choke seems to be ok..i also thought it was flooding too at first..theres a screen/filter at the end of the fuel line where it threads into the carb that was pretty dirty which i cleaned. so far it seemed to help...ill fire it up again tomorrow and see if that was the culprit
