Neat Cleats

['78 Crusader]

Hey guys. Have any of you guys installed the "Neat Cleats" on your boats? If so...how do you like them?

Do you know of a less expensive place to get these from?

Hey Crusader,

I have used cleats like those before, and I liked them. I admittedly only used that boat for a summer, but I was on it all day everyday. (I worked a summer camp that owned it) I really liked the fact that they would hide away and you didnt have to worry about catching them on something. I also never had a problem with them. We had a couple of good storms that summer, and the boat stayed in the water for 2 months straight with no problems on strength or function.

Bottom line: If I had a boat of my own I'd love to put some on it.

My boat came with three factory installed retractable cleate, one bow two stearn. I installed 2 mids. Not this same brand, but same concept. I just did a lot of searching, ended up getting mine from a sporting goods store on Ebay for a very reasonable price. From my experience, it's not difficult to beat Overton's prices. At least get on their email list, and you'll get offers for discounts. Shop around.

I guess it depends on whether you take your lines off the boat while underway. We don't so having a retractable cleat isn't worth it. I do like the look, though.

There are also mini versions for securing fenders. Our SeaRay had factory installed ones and I loved them.

They were oem on my son's boat. I hate them. They are a pita to use! At times if you are in a precarious position and need to throw a dock line on real quick, you don't giterdone real quick. When I'm out with him I leave them up all the time, so what's the purpose?

My boat has 9 stationary SS cleats on it. Four were oem, and the others I added myself, buying the same model so they all match.

Our boat came with 1 like that on bow. So far I really like it. The other 4 are standard cleats.
