Hi, 1st post, seems to be a wealth of info here. I'm thinking of buying a 96 proline with a 96 mariner 115. Don't know anything about newer outboards I do own a 1964 evenrude 40 that would'nt die if I wanted it to! 1st question, any known or common concerns and 2 boats been sitting 3 years but the guy has it running now What should I be concerned with?Plan on replacing the impellar, but anything I should watch for? Been a ford tech for 20 years, but not much on outboards

The 115 4 cyl is known as a "2+2" motor, only the top two carbs/cyl's have complete idle circuits and fire at and slightly above an idle.

The bottom two carbs/cyl have an accelerator pump that delivers an acceleration shot of fuel during throttle opening to provide fuel to begin operation below the flow of the main jet supplies enough fuel.

When the system is adjusted perfectly according to the OEM Service Manual most people would not know any difference between a 2+2 and any other outboard.

The system was derived in order to comply with growing EPA idle emisions.

Mine works just fine on my 96 ProCraft 18' F&S

Do the impeller, the fuel pump diaphrams and fuel filters and change the gear oil and spark plugs.... Good to go...

The most common problem with them is the magnet falls off the float in the oil tank and gives you an 'oil low' alarm.... Fix is to replace the oil tank.... $100 and about 30 minutes.
