I am looking at a lighweight 2.5hp gas OB. I have found 2 companies that sell motors weighing 18-20 lbs.
The first one is Island Hopper Inc. http://www.smalloutboardengines.com/
The second is Florida Outboard motors and Engines www.ioutboardmotors.com/

These are gas motors that look like Minkota electrics. I have only found one site with a few reviews on the Island Hopper site. I am using a Bass Master "Bass Baby" pontoon boat and am currently using a 40lb thrust Minkota, weighing around 23lbs. I am leery of ordering something too new to the market, but the lure of the power, price and the weight have me thinking. I don't mind ponying up an extra couple hundred dollars and just getting a 4-stroke 30lb. OUTBOARD 1.jpgOUTBOARD 2.jpgSuzuki, but if I can slash 10 lbs....PICS OF THE 2 MOTORS ARE ATTACHED.

Get the 4 stroke, you'll be glad you did.

When you figure the weight of your electric you need to figure in the weight of the 12v deep cycle battery too, which probably weighs as much as the 4 stroke by itself.

Those look like weed wackers, they most likely sound like them too.

jmo, but i would stay away from those little weed whacker air cooled motors......unless the warranty is amazing. you can pick up a good used 3 or 4 hp omc, with internal tank, for a couple of hundred, put a few bucks into it, have money in your pocket......and still come in under the weight of your electric + battery.
