i am in desperate need of a wiring diagram WITH one wire alternator and not a voltage regulator (it does get removed right?)

also, my engine harness gets hot when the key is on, i found the coil has +12 on both posts, i thought one side was negative? even if i disconnect all wires from it except the one from the ignition, both still have +12 volts with nothing going to the - side of the coil

Most likely the wire goes to your solenoid under the red battery cable. You have a resistor wire in the bundle that goes to the coil. It will be warm when your points are closed or the engine has been running a while. You will get 12 volts on both sides of the coil when points are open.

Not knowing what your harness looks like , but remove the 2 yellow wires going to the reg and tape then off. Should be a red or orange that has battery power on it, connect the single wire output there and tape off the remaining wires
If you do a search of the posts from DonS, you will find manual 8 for your engine.

heat is caused by resitance due to corrsion, too small a wire, or too much current for the component/conductor

did you install the elecronic ignition system?? a lot of electronic igntions use an internally resisted coil so 12 volts at the coil primarys is normal

Here's the main problem, the 470's did not come with alternators, or electronic igintion. So, the chance of finding a wiring diagram like your engine is setup is zero. The best that could happen is a wiring diagram of how your engine was originally set up, then you have to figure out what was changed for your conversions.
For that to happen, we will need a Mercruiser serial number for your engine.
