Not sure about the 96 but the older models only had 5 different keys.
Contact the locak Mercury guys and see if they might have a stock of keys.
That year was mostly Mercury ignition parts. So they might have the key you need.
I believe they made a bunch of different keys. You might get lucky.
So basically go to a Mercury dealer.J

Great! I'll give it a try tomorrow. I have the SN on the motor. Should I need anything else??

Also, If this thing runs out OK. What would it be worth with power tilt? Would $2000.00 be a reasonable request? I have read on some forums that the Force is kind of low on the "list of preferred engines", but I would still like to know what is a reasonable price to get for it.

I think you'd have a hard time selling it for $2000.
$1000-1300 is more like it.If you can get that.
I just bought a complete 125/88 for $200

Re: Need a key for a 120 Force

I recently purchased a 1994 18' Maxum open bow with a 94 120 hp force by merc. And wow what a deal. They were asking 2000.00 dollars for all. Came with jackets, ropes, fish finder, oh and of course the trailer. We took it out on a local lake we have near us for a test run and it ran like a dream come true. I ended up offering 200.00 more cause it felt like the right thing to do. They excepted. I did have to wash and polish, not a big deal and now I have a really nice boat that runs really great. I do have a 1989 Maxum with a 89 125 force outboard that has been nothing but problems from the day I purchased it. Had I taken it for a test run first then I wouldn't have been interested. Well that motor is now shot and so it sits. The 120 runs like it should and I am well pleased with the whole purchase. It did also come with a 17 pitch aluminum prop and a 18 pitch stainless prop. I plan on getting rid of the stainless cause its just to much prop for the motor and the 17 will be good enough for a spare emergency only or lower altitude lakes only. If your motor runs as well as my 120 then I would pay 1000.00-1500.00 for it in a heart beat. I think jerry said it best though.

It would be easier and maybe even cheaper to just buy a new ignition switch and install it. It will come with atleast 2 keys. Takes 5-10 minutes to change.

Did you sell your old Force motor yet? I am disabled and made the mistake of not doing a test drive. After purches and first trip to the lake I find out that it is manual tilt. One look at me and you can tell I can't left a 200+ lb motor much less on the water. So what I am asking is, Would you be willing to sell me the tilt/trim setup on this motor? They cost way too much new, not being able to afford the tilt/trim since I purches boat so all I have is a yard decoration.
Why can't people be honest when they sell things??? Nice boat just not for someone that can't lift motor. All he had to do is point it out.(no motor tilt)
Thanks Keith
