Need a little help

I've got a Evinrude E60TTLERV (1994 60hp)that I can't get to stay running. I ran it two weeks in MN and it ran fine, then a week after, I went to start it and it started fine but wouldn't stay running. It's got an electric solenoid primer and if I keep hitting that as it starts to die, it'll keep running but if not, it dies. It had the VRO but that was taken out and replaced with the old diaphram fuel pump. Just wondering if it's a carb problem or fuel pump. Don't think it's electrical because it runs OK if I keep hitting the primer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Stupid question... Do you have the fuel tank vent open?

Yep, tank vent is open. I ran a 6hp off the same tank, hose, and fuel and it had no problems whatsoever.

Sounds like a carb problem. Verify spark and compression, if they are good it would be easy to rebuild the carbs and relatively inexpensive

I kinda thought it was the carbs but I wasn't sure exactly what the primer solenoid did. I figured if it pushes gas through the carbs, then maybe they weren't bad and it was possibly the fuel pump. Thanks for the input guys.

Re: Need a little help

If you have a primer solenoid, it injects fuel into the manifold behind the carbs, follow the little fuel lines out of the solenoid and they should go to fittings on the manifold.
Will it continue to run if you constantly squeeze the primer bulb, maybe you have a fuel pump going out.

Just an update on this. I rebuilt all three carbs and motor is now running great again. All three carbs had needles that wouldn't unseat when the float dropped and two had an obstructed passage under the welch plug. Anyway, all is good again and thanks for the replys and the help.
