Need a new kill switch

I think I busted my kill switch this past weekend. I pulled it out for the first time since buying the boat because my kids were swimming off the back of the boat, and then my engine wouldn't start. It would turn but not fire up. I tried taking the wires off and testing with a multimeter, but I'm no electrician. It's the kind that has a button that pulls in if you remove the lanyard.

Can anyone recommend a good quality replacement for a 1994 Larson with a Volvo Penta sterndrive?

All you would have needed to do is connect the two wires together and go boating (carefully). Did you break the switch or the clip on the end of the lanyard?

Hi Pete. Silvertip is right. you can just wire them together to complete the circuit next time, so you can get home. You can get a new kill switch at lots of places. You can check any small engine shops near you that might service jet skis, ATV's, snowmobiles, etc....., or you can get them online. I'm actually about to order one from amazon for about $12. I've used them in the past an they work great and they're super easy to install. I'm not sure if iboats sells them, or not. Here's a pic:

Haha that's actually the exact product I had pulled up on Amazon.

We tried touching the wires together but the boat still wouldn't start. I'm not sure what's going on with it, but that's the only thing I did after running successfully and restarting the boat twice before on the same trip. Who knows. It'll have to wait till this weekend when I can look at it again.

Thanks for the tips. I'm gonna get the one I was looking at just to rule it out as a problem.

It would turn but not fire up.

The kill switches I've had on my boats prevented the motor from even turning over if the lanyard was removed. Not even a click from the starter solenoid. The kill switch might not be your problem.

Did you make sure that the controls were in neutral when you were trying to start it?
