Well, I finally got around to tearing apart the powerhead. Number 6 had a broken piston and the cylinder sleeve was shredded. There were shards of steel sent into the aluminum headas well as number 2 had a grove worn into the sleeve, so I figure I am just going to get a remanufactured power head.
I am looking for a power head for a Johnson 1995 225hp. It is a v6 looper.

Please post your contact info or let me know if you have one and I will contact you.

The best deal I have seen so far is $2000 on ebay pluse additional $500 for shipping and core charge.

I currently live in MD and willing to drive up to 6 hours for it.

Thanks

What caused the piston to break? Don't want the same thing to happen to a new powerhead......

Re: Need a powerhead for Johnson 225

I am not sure what caused it to blow. I bought it in the fall and was told everything was in perfect working condition. It ran pretty well but later found out after the purchase that number 6 had almost no compression. It was run for appoximatley one year with only 5 cylinders. I know it was rebuilt two years before I bought it and it was bored out to 20 thousanths over and sleeved. I think I have a sneaky suspicion that the vro pump is a problem and plan to direct mix my oil and gas once I figure out to disable what ever it is I need to disable. I have a large tank and have no problem mixing it if it means peace of mind and less money out of my wallet because of another blown head. Any suggestions please?
