need a quick answer please

I have a 1977 Johnson 140 hp with problems found a 1978 Johnson 140 cheap . Will parts interchange ? Need to know if I should buy it.

You're within a year of each other, so if you can compare the two and see no radical changes, then you should be pretty safe to bet on everything being interchangable. If anything, there might be a slight cosmetic difference.
The best way for us to help us determine, is if you post the model numbers of both engines in question. Simply because there may be mechanical differences in the lower units or other changes. Powerheads will likely be compatible and the majority of other stuff will be, as well. I bet Joe Reeves will have a definate answer to this one. ;)

What sort of problems does your present outboard have? Spending money on a questionable parts bin seems massive overkill to me unless there is a major mechanical failure.

If the years are correct, they won't interchange. They have different shift patterns and are internally different.

Thanks guys found out motor was a1977. got boat,motor and trailel for 500$ it runs only needs a shiftshaft. My motor is bad. Going to swap powerheads.
