what happend to dock talk? i tried to look it up to find the year for this motor and i can't find it. omc.com just puts up a can't display page.....well i have the serial # (j0010468) and the model # (70773s) and they match the freeze plug gimick on the block so i have the right numbers. i think it is supposed to be a 1970 70hp johnson. i posted a long time ago that i was going to be working on this motor, and now i need it so here i am. the guy i bought it from murderd it without remorse so i have my work cut out for me. he spun a bearing in it a while back and rebuilt it but i don't think he did it right cause here i am after he spun another one and gave it to me. he ate the bearing cage all up, he put a dome piston in the #2 cylinder (the other two are flat tops) witch made the comp. 15-20lbs higher on the middle piston, the crank is pretty bad looking on the spun journal, the bearing cage came apart and loged itself in the reed port thing-a-majigger(busted that up but good), put a hole in the manifold cover( where the bearing cap and nut made contact). it still turns and stuff but there are some things that i don't know and don't look right to me. 1: he said that there is little or no pressure in this part of the motor and when he repaired the other hole he made he used J.B. weld to patch the hole and ground out the inside for clearance. there seems to be no problem there but what do i know. 2: that dome piston thing bugs me. that cant be right can it? would'nt that make things unbalenced or out of wack in the motor? 3: when i got down to the crank i noticed that the other rod bearings (the ones connecting the piston arm to the crank....did i get that right?) are loose and i can wiggle them just a hair when i move the rod cap. the bolts are not loose. dose this mean that if this piston did'nt go one of the others would have very soon or are they supposed to be like that? have'nt messed with cage bearings much. what a mess. i have worked on smaller outboards before so i can do it if i take my time and do it right. i have the repair manul that he gave me for it. i can't look up parts untill i know what year it is. pre-thanks.<br />derwood
