I am currently trying to warm up the motor (Yam F150 2009 4S) and it's not sucking up water and pushing out through the pee hole? I have water muffs over the lower unit intake holes, but it is not peeing? The muffs are dual water muffs or water enters on both sides.

When I had the motor on the water last time, it worked fine, or it was peeing, at least the last I remember. Does it take awhile to pump the water up through the pee hole? Luckily the outside temp is cool, but I don't want to run the motor to long without it pushing water through.

Do I need to put into gear and see if that shakes something loose? It could be sediment, since I've been on the river, but haven't had a problem yet with that.

I just want to change the oil because I have my first 20 hrs on the motor. As well as the lower unit lube oil.

Back your unit into the water and warm it up there. I've never had good luck on the muffs with the F150. Even when i get flow out of the tell-tale it will overheat. There is a water bleed at the trim tab that looses water pressure, try plugging that temporarily.

Thanks Baileys.

I was going to take it to the ramp and just warm it up there, and do the change in the parking lot (pump oil out). But thought, a heck, I'll just do it at home.

I heard it takes about a 1 minute to get it peeing so maybe I'll give it a minute and if not turn it off and head for the ramp. Ugh!

Dagnamit!!

LOL. I knew it, but last minute I thought, what the heck, I'll just do it at home! Should of gone with me gut feeling. I just hope it pees after I drop it in the water and give it a go! Or else I have a real problem! Yikes!

Isn't there water coming out of the prop? The pisser is just an indicator that the water is circulating. If it's plugged, you wont see a stream, but it still will circulate fine. If your dumping water out of the hub , you're fine. Will just need to use an air nozzle and blow back at the pisser to clear the line... Or, am I way off base with this motor? My 60hp pisser was plugged once, but was circulating water fine. Just had to clear out the line.

Yup, on another website I frequent there was a lengthy discussion by some well versed individuals that some yamahas have trouble running on the muffs...mine runs like a champ where as others do not with no ryhme or reason as to why....engine is probably fine just doesnt like the muffs

I'm curious. What happened when you brought it to the ramp?

*** Update ***

Well, I took the boat to the ramp and backed it in holding my breath! Fired it up, and bingo, it started to pee! Unbelievable. So, I let it warm up for about 8 minutes and then pulled it out and pumped out the oil. Worked like a charm! The only messy part was taking off the oil filter! Some oil dropped down at the bottom of the engine compartment. Hopefully that's not a problem? It did drain out when I lower the unit completely.

Actually it wasn't that bad at all! I suppose as Baileys stated, you could pinch the water drain hose that drops down through the trim tab. I didn't try it, but that could be the trick when using the muffs.

I have the same engine and the same situation. I also run the double muffs. I realized by turning the muff cups up vertically to match the orientation of the water pickup that mine starting peeing within 30 seconds after staring where as before it would not pee at all. Also I went to a local Dollar store and bought a 36 gallon plastic storage container and placed it under the lower unit, filled it with water and that worked great also.

I found a picture of the motor running in the plastic tote.

Glad to hear it worked out fine and you didn't have any issues after all. Nothing worse than having problems with our "toys" when we should be enjoying them....
I apologize for stating the obvious to most, but make sure when anybody puts muffs on, you slip it on from the back of the motor forward. That will ensure they stay in position and not slip off. I don't know how many people I've seen put them on from the front of the motor by the transom only to have them slip off or move around...

I think you'd get much better advice if you started your own thread in the Honda & Tohatsu/Nissan Outboards Repair section.
