Hello,
I have an Evinrude 35 hp, 3 cyl from 1997. Model: ~E35TKLEUR

When I Brought it, it would not start (no spark om any cyl). I have replaced sparks and done the service manual tests. Cleaned sensors, grounds and tested the kill switch.

It has rope start and I have succesfully started the engine, but only once. Left it in garage over the winter.

Yesterday, I tried cranking the engine but with no luck. (No spark, again)
Again, I did all the tests, cleaned sensors, grounds and so on.

I noticed 1 test, the measured ohms for the stator are telling that the engine should be with electric starter. Strange...maybe an owner had it removed? I dont know.

Well, it should not be a problem caused I did got the engine running by rope once.
After diagnostic and alot of readings I found this at page 69 in the CDI Troubleshooting:

"At cranking speed the voltage from the stator may not be enough to operate the circuits inside the power pack,
therefore there is battery voltage supplied from the starter solenoid via the Yellow/Red striped wire. The extra voltage is needed in order for the optical sensor to operate correctly as low voltage from the battery and/or stator can cause intermittent spark or no spark at all. "

As I understand it, it can be difficult to start the engine without a connected battery.
Really? So with no battery you cannot be sure to start the engine?

All measured tests looks fine according to the service manual. But I was not able to test the timer sensor, but I had it startes once.

Should I connect a battery? I have looked at the wire diagrams in the service manual. But I cannot see where to connect the battery for the timing sensors.

How should I proceed? Please advice.
