They are pretty generic in what they do. Most I've encountered measure 0-1" in 0.001" increments. For infrequent non-critical usage use such as you are using it for, I'd go with the cheap imports from places like Harbor Freight etc. Most machine shop supply houses will also carry them. No need to spend $$$ on brand names like Starrett and the like.
The one thing to consider is how are you going to support it? Do you need to buy a magnetic base or does it come with the gauge? Other options?
