Hi,

I can choose between two identical boats (Yamarin 575 HT Biggame, 600 kilos) with either:
- 1998 Honda 90 bhp, 4 stroke, 4 cylinder, 100-150 hours
- 1998 Evinrude Intruder 150 bhp, 2 stroke, 6 cylinder, 400 hours

Is the Honda suitable for waterskiing?

Any comments?

the rule of thumb, is 70% of the recommended maximum horse power. you are talking 60 hp difference. not knowing the max rating for the boat, impossible to say. if the boat is rated for the 150hp that would be my choice. but going over the rated hp, can cause a lot of legal problems in the future, especially if there is ever and incident.

Whatever you choose, make sure you have someone to service the outboard close enough to you so you don't need to drive for hours to get your motor serviced. If you have a Evinrude service right in town and a Honda service in the next state, then go with the Evinrude.

Excellent advice if I have ever heard it. Believe it or not,I am reconsidering
my motor choice and thinking of sticking with Mercury for that very reason
instead of going with Yamaha as originally planned. My closest Lund dealer
is a "loose motor" dealer for Mercury,...but not Yamaha, meaning I would have to buy the Lund up in Michigan if I want the Yamaha motor since the guy
up there is a "loose motor"dealer for Yamaha. But heck,...with gas prices the way they are now,who in the world would want to drive that far just to purchase a little 14 ft. aluminum skiff(Lund A-14 to be exact)when I can get
it down here. No offense intended to the dealer up in Michigan, though. Just
thought I'd put my nickel's worth of thought in. Why drive three hours to have a Yamaha serviced when I can drive less than an hour to get a Merc
taken care of? I see the point you are making!
