Hi...I don't know much about this brand of outboard, and will appreciate any advice I can get on this engine

i am interested in possible purchase of a used 1986 Procraft Bass Boat with an original Yamaha 115
The boat was a donation to a ministry, so the condition is unknown. I know that I am only interested in the motor, however I have to purchase the entire rig.

The engine currently is not running, not sure how long it has been sitting, so I want to check the basics , such as

compression, hydraulic trim & tilt, spark, gear oil ect...the gas is bad and it will need a carb rebuild, which I can do

I would like to know if there is more things to check when I go back out on Saturday
I hope I don't buy a boat anchor, however i feel somewhat good about, it I think
It may look like there is a different lower unit, however it was a part sun part shade area

here are some pictures. I will try and get some of the engine on Saturday

I have the same motor, only a 1989 version, and I love it! It runs great for me. As for things to check, you could check the lower unit oil for water (indicating a leak in a seal, and possible rust in lower unit). Check to see if the motor will turn freely (maybe put a wrench on the flywheel?), check compression... Other more knowledgeable folks can chime in with more details.

thanks Ken
However I changed my mind on this, my gut feeling was to walkaway from it.
I am on my way Saturday to buy a 1993 Chaparral 18' with a 3.0 mercruiser, has some water in the oil, however the entire boat is in vary good condition. I will run some test so I can find out how the water is getting into the oil, maybe the block, head, head gasket, ect
wither way, it is a way better boat than this one
