well, my teenage son picked up this old larson playmate, motor work is ongoing, waiting on some parts. so we started working on the inside. this boat doesn't have a false bottom. the inside of the boat has been painted with some cheap white house paint. we almost have all of the paint sanded off and are thinking about refinishing. since we have sanded the paint off we have exposed some of the glass fibers and want to recoat the inside. this hull looks like it was built with a chopper gun. was planning on re coating the inside with poly resin just to seal the glass back in but then we will need some color. west marine has poly coloring agents which seems ok but poly is way to slick and will need some texture. i don't want to put carpet in the boat but need a good looking non skid surface for the inside and for cheap, hence the name shoestring. any ideas out there?

What do you mean "false bottom"?

I am doing the same thing...(no false bottom means the floor is the bottom of the boat...right?) anywhoo the inside of my little boat is the same way, fuzzy fibers sticking everywhere and you itch every time you get in it. Gelcoat is expensive, and so is epoxy paint...but I found this at the depot, garage floor paint and it's even 2 part epoxy! Only set me back 60something bucks for the gallon kit, and it comes with grippy texture flakes you can opt to use or not.

cool idea, i never thought of using this before, thought of doing the garage floor, but i guess it would work in a boat also. and grey even, that would cut down on the glare. definately need the grip. i was thinking of coloring polyester resin and spreading crushed golf balls on it before it set up. golf balls are soft and easy on bare feet. did this on my back deck with sonoguard and it gave it a great non slip surface and dosen't rip the bottom of your feet off. i'm looking into the garage floor covering, thanks
