I have a Merc 470 inboard in our old shrimp boat, it was only 3 years old when last used, but has been sitting in the boat since 1992. I've cranked it once a year and someone now wants to buy just the engine not the outdrive. Any idea on how much the engine is worth selling for?
The guy has the same engine, but locked his up. How much could the outdrive be worth. Please, help the guys is pretty much set on buying it, he just needs to know the price.

$800-1000....For the engine with all the trimmin's....
Depends on the condition of the drive......
If good, $500 or so......IMHO.......

Who's pullin it out? If it's a clean good running engine I would think it would be worth 1500 dollars sittin on the ground ready to go.

The outdrive is in good running shape and can sell that at a Marine resale shop down the road. The engine is running just a few plastic parts are crap, but the guy buying has all of his old engine for parts. I will be pulling it out with an a-frame that we have. Thanks, guys.

Good 470s are getting very hard to find. A grand minimum.

I would say at least a grand. Finding a good used 3.7 is like finding hen's teeth. I've sold locked up ones for $750 and the people was proud to get them.

If he refuses a grand I should sell it elsewhere? Selling should be the easy part, once I get that beast out, from what yall are telling me. We had a locked up one in the backward, I think the scrap man came grab it, then we put the new one in, ran for 3 years, hasn't seen the water since 1992, except an annual dose of WD-40.

I'm relatively new to that engine. I have one in an 87 Thompson that I bought in 03 that has about 450 hours on her. Last year when I had the impellar, gymbal etc changed/ serviced the maintenance supervisor told me what a gem of an engine it was. He said he didn't see many anymore and that those that were in good shape were excellent, dependable motors. I'm not an admirable, just a user. But I'm sold that it's a hell of an engine.
