I need advice and opinion on Yamaha 90 HP Outboard Tilt Motor Issue. My old motor when kapoots. I ordered a knockoff version from a company called Tungsten Marine becuase the price was like $120 versus $450 for the oem product.
I installed the new motor, and filled the resevoir full with lube (as far as I can tell) I filled it until it would flow out.
The tilt and trim system works half way, it will lift the motor a couple of inches and then stick. I can manually lift the motor up while using the trim switch, sort of shaking it back and forth but can't get the trim motor to lift the yamie on its on. Once I get it to the top, the trim motor will trim it down, just has problems trimming it up.
My question is :
1. Is it possible that I didn't align the trim motor up correctly, I've uninstalled and installed several times and get the same result
2. Maybe I don't have enough trim fluid in the system to properly trim up (even though I put as much as I thought I could get in there)
3. The knock off trim motor just isn't capable of performing correctly.
Has anyone else had experiences like this. I am really cash strapped and trying to figure this out on my on without having to take to a repair shop and them tell me I'll have to purchase a $450 motor and by the way it'll be 3-4 hours of labor so that will be another $300- $350
Any advice and opinions, thoughts is greatly appreciated.
