Need advice removing choke plate. Please

I am trying to remove the thermostat from my choke, the black composite plate with the three screws and retainers around it. Is it just stuck and what is a good way to remove it without further damage. When I inserted my screwdriver into the flat head on the face it chipped out. I have tapped on it with a rubber mallet and tried as much compressed air as I could generate without my compressor. Any suggestion would be great. The people of this forum are invaluable! I wish I could delete this topic, sorry everyone but I got it out with compessed air, caught it before it hit the floor. Thanks!!
