I am heading down to FL to visit family. I will be on the east coast in the Palm Coast area but I already know locations. This is a quick trip and I may not have time to fish but I would love to try out the flyrod on some S/W fish. It is still a little early for things to be heating up here but down there I should be in some fish. Usually I am shore bound and I catch small redfish, black drum and numerous panfish on pieces of shrimp but I want some fish on the flyrod dang it. My question is what type/size/color flies would serve me best? I was thinking white, chartreuse and pink crazy charleys #6 and perhaps a Clouser or two in the same or similar colors but I want opinions. Most of these fish are small and in fact most of the redfish are not even keepers but I catch and release so it is fun anyway. I own both a size 6 and 9 wt rods and am not too bad casting with either but have yet to catch a fish on the 9wt and relay want to break it in even though the fish are more a 6wt size. Anyone that knows anything even if it is not first hand but something you read or overheard is welcome to suggest something. Once again I am not going to have a lot of time so I want to make the odds favor me as much as is possible. Of course If I wanted a magic bait I would take spinning gear and shrimp but I want fly rod fish.

I would difinitly use clousers in the #4-6 34007 if you are going for small fish and I'd also tie a few with small dumbbells. I don't know if you have any speckle trout down there but if you do they love clousers in green/ white & black/white.

:) The Unorthodox Flyfisher

I fished the texas flats but a lot of simularities, the clousers were one of my gottos for reds. Also if you get to a jetty or something try to hit the tidal mudline on the bottom, one of my favorite situations. As for seatrout anything with white worked well for me on most occasions. my preferance would be a deer haired popper 2-3 inches long with white dressings and sinking tip line so you can get it to dive, makes for good serface action.

Just the thouhgt brings back good times, hook one for me.

flyrodd...also trim the top front portion back slightly so you get more "dive" with a good strip fou should get 8-12 inches deep before it refloats.
It reminds me of the sound a feeding trout (sluurp)would make drives em wild. Nothing like starting your own feeding frenzy.

Talked to a good friend of mine :) He says this fly works on alot of small fish and also good on spanish mackeral. The fly is about 5" long purple/white buck tail with no flash, sinking line. Also Doc,s goofy jig w/fly in yellow, he says is excellent. You may have to talk to somebody at a bait shop.

:) Home of the perfect STORM

Thanks. I will make sure I have a couple. I already have a few S/W flies but since I don't tie my own and they cost an arm and leg I wanted to get a handle on the must have flies from others before I ask a guy wanting to sell me some. Anyone else have a suggestion please let me know.
