I HAVE AN 87 FORCE 125 OUTBOARD.I JUST GOT THE BOAT A FEW WEEKS AGO. I READ QUITE A FEW POSTINGS CONCERNING THE CARBS, THAT THEY SHOULD BE SYNCHRONIZED. I LOOKED AT MINE. THE TOP CARBURETOR THROTTLE PLATE WAS OPEN SLIGHTLY AT IDLE, THE BOTOM ONE WAS COMPLETELY CLOSED.I ADJUSTED THE LINKAGE SO THEY BOTH WERE CLOSED. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE TOP CARB IS SUPPOSED TO BE OPEN AT IDLE? BECAUSE NOW THE MOTOR IDLES TERRIBLY. IT SEEMS TO BE TO SLOW, AND IT SEEMS LIKE IT IS GOING TO STALL.I TRIED THE IDLE SPEED SCREW, BUT I REALLY HAVE TO CRANK DOWN ON IT TO GET THE SPEED UP.
ANY THOUGHTS?

Re: NEED ADVICE

Hey Swainde,
You'll need to re-adjust the air/fuel mixture on the top carb. It was apparently adjusted originally with the butterfly slightly open. If you need help let us know.
Backlash

Re: NEED ADVICE

Hey Swainde,
Now that you've got the carbs in sync, the air/fuel mixture must be re-adjusted on the top carb. If you need help with the procedure, let us know.
Backlash :)

Re: NEED ADVICE

Hey again Swainde,
Haven't been logged on since Sunday so haven't had a chance to respond to you. To adjust the fuel/air mixture on your carbs, turn the adjusting screw in (clockwise) until it LIGHTLY seats. Then back it out one and one-half turns. Start engine in water & in gear and allow to warm up. Adjust by backing screw out (counter-clockwise) a quarter turn at a time until engine begins to run rough, then turn the screw back in (clockwise) a quarter turn at a time until engine smooths out (count the number of turns). Continue in same direction until engine roughs up again. The optimum setting is about half-way between the two rough idle positions. Hope this make sense & helps you some.
Backlash
