I have a 50hp force...added a duel tell to it, and have had her many times like she sits now. Well, today I took her out to test a homemade exhaust snout..I broke the one I just bought...anyway she started right up like always and seemed fine.
I took her out for like maybe two runs around in a cirlcle and started back to the dock to pick up my friend so we could go fishing. Only thing is as I slowed down I look back and theres no water coming out at all!!!!! Damn thing was pumping like a niagrag falls and now she is blowing steam out the back! I turned it off asap and waited almost thirty mins, before trying to restart. Couldnt get her to start for nothing!
So I pulled her out and in the shade removed the lower end, and to my surprise, the damn brand new impeller I put in when I bought the engine, still looks and feels new! So I figure maybe a dirt dobber got in and built a nest or something, but all the passages are clear! Hell i even tried to blow air by mouth through all the holes and had not a single issue! Even checked the lower end..Nothing!

So, now I decide to put her back together and try it out again. Got her running barely at high idle out of water, but when I put her back in water she stalls and will not run at all. So I pulled her out again and went home.

Now, its 1am and I am in a wal mart parking lot and after taking the whole damn head off I have now realized water was getting into the lower cylinder! thats a issue of the heat I guess...And more than likely why I could not get her to run when in water. So after cleaning all the old gasket off and installing new, she will purr...just like old times!

My question here is, what the hell could have caused her to do this? The screen over the intake is new, and does not look bad, no evidence at all of debri in the engine, and the impeller was like new. Oh yeah, and it has no temp alarm, or even thermostat at all, never has and always pumped great. Please...I am going out in the morning and would kinda need to make sure she isnt going to do this again. thanks and sorry this is so long, hope it isnt that hard to read.

The water either came from a bad head gasket, or possibly the exhaust port cover gasket.

Well, took her out today and she started up great! Went about 1/4 throttle and while watching the tell tale I added as well as water spurt noticed everything was fine.

For all of 3 minutes! Once I get past about 1/2 throttle the damn thing stops pumping water at all! If I slow down right away then she will start pumping again. But the water will be hot as all get out from the tell tale and the spurt. Now, I let it do about a 1/4 for quite awhile hoping to maybe flush or somehow get rid of whatever it was that could be causeing the issue. Then I thought everything was fine, I was wrong... before i realized it she had over heated to the point the head gasket is gone again. Now I have to redo her. I am gonna take her apart yet again, but I just need to check and see if any of you guys may have any advise on something to check for...any advise would be great.

Re: Need advise on 50hp with cooling issues.

ok guys, I have tried again to get the outboard to pump water. Cant seem to get it in there to save my life!
I bypassed the pump and used my tell tale and it worked flawless..no issues at all. Water never even really got hot and head was warm at most all the time. Removed lower again and sealed everything I could. While I still have it apart I have used my drill to turn the driveshaft and the pump is pumping alot of water! Soon as I started the drill I got hit in the face with water.

Upon looking closer I have found that water comes out of the pump and flows up a copper tube to the head. But when I bypass the water pump and just go straight to the tell tale, water comes out of the copper tube, as well as out of the bottom of the outboard. Meaning that water is leaking I guess. From where is my question to you guys. And can that copper pipe corrode? Or be taken out? Maybe my issue is the pipe has a seal at the top...I dunno. Any advise would as always be great!

Asked a local shop today and they said I need a new pump housing.. comes with new impeller, and all seals. For $120 plus tax. that sound like it would fix my issue, and is it about right in price? I could have sworn i saw them on here advertized for far less...

Thanks to the few of you who tried to help me. I just went ahead and bought th elit from the local force dealer. Yep...over paid, but still...it worked and now by boat is running great again and spraying a stream almost 4' back x2! My duels look cool as all get out now!
