Through a strange collection of events (long story) I have an opportunity to purchase the boat from a friend for $450.

I know it needs a carburetor (missing), a battery and a starter. The boat sat at a mechanics for a number of weeks with the plug in while it poured rain. Probably took 20min to drain once the plug was finally pulled. My question is this: What should I be looking for outside of the obvious as far as potential problems.
Im a shadetree mechanic with a full garage, but Im unfamiliar with boats in general.

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Being a auto mechanic and owning 3 boats I would pass, research buying a boat on this site, and water test anything before you buy, in the long or short run well worth it. Big projects sound cheap at first but end up costing big all said and done

1 why was it at the shop in the first place?
2 how is the interior, floor, ect?
3 Figure on the cheep (with nothing else wrong) you are looking at at least 700 dollars in parts with what you described
4 How about past maintenance? When were the bellows last done, ect.?
5 Are you sure it ONLY sat for a couple weeks (or was it longer)? If it sat over the winter and froze it could also need an engine.

A cheep (or free) boat NORMALLY turns into more than the boat is worth by the time it is over with.
