Looking for an emergency kicker motor for my boat. It has no perm place to mount one, nor do I want to make one; if I lower the wakeboard tower, that will provide a stable surface. Currently I have a 40# electric in my ski locker, but a) it would take me forever to get home if i needed it, and b) i'd be out of juice before forever arrived. I'd like a small gas OB in there instead.

My neighbor has an older 2hp johnson with an integral fuel tank that would be perfect, but he won't sell it to me ;)

Anybody know of a vintage/hp/setup that would work for me? Doesn't have to be OMC, but there's no "general OB" forum...

My stretch of river gets mighty desolate, especially mid-week in the fall!

I'm actually doing the same thing now. The very same. I have a 94 Johnson 2HP Model HJ2DRERM. It only weighs 27 pounds and has an integral fuel tank. It runs like a champ, though I've never tried to push my boat with it. My Merc died on me last time out. Had me, my sister, and two of her kids on the boat. The trolling motor did jack. So I'm gonna do some routine stuff to the Johnson and store it under the bow casting deck. It's a little big for a 2HP, but it's light. A new Merc 2.5 is 42 pounds.

Being around the end of the season, you may be able to find something out there around that year range. Though it's a bit big, it's light and capable...

Just my .02. Hope it helps... :)

evinrude rude made a foldable 3 hp motor. yes, it folded in 1/2 the lower unit has a joint that allows it to fold, it also has a nice carrying case.

interesting about the foldable motor. it's more the depth of the motor that's the problem.

Evinrude / Johnson also made a 4 hp with integral tank, I believe it only had a Forward gear - the motor could swivel 180 degrees if you wanted to go in reverse. It was bigger than the 2hp but thanks to the lack of gears, still quite light. Once you got to 4.5 hp and up things went to FNR and separate gas tank.
