I have recently acquired a project: a 1958 Arkansas Traveller 14 ft runabout (fiberglass) with a 1959 Evinrude Lark 35 big twin. Boat is ok, and motor looks ok, but we shall see. No steering was found, so I'm starting from sctratch there. I've been thinking I will save a bunch to put in the original setup but I need to find a drum helm to get started.

I will have to mount four pulleys, and find the double pulley that fits that engine bracket.
I know the teleflex setups will work, but by the time I get a kit, wheel, transom mount, Clevus kit and various bits and pieces, I'll be shelling out near 450 for the whole pile. I figure I could find the drum helm for around 80, and 4 pulleys with cable will not be a lot, plus it's original, and probably steers better.

Well, First see what condition the motor itself is in, Then decide if you want to fix up the hull, And continue with the steering. I have the entire setup that I just acquired from a boat that was being scrapped, including the motor pulleys, and helm drum with steering wheel.. No cables though, they were shot.. I'm not positive that I'd like to sell it at this point, but If you have all your other issues solved, it might be a good place for it to go. I'd hate to sell it and have it go to the scrapyard.

Thanks to member Bill Ellis, who supplied the helm and many parts. I think I've found what I need.
