1966 650. While taking apart the carb, the main fuel nozzle was destroyed. I found another carb at the local dealer, however the nozzle out of it is longer. The small diam. end, which screws into the carb, is is about .050 longer, and the other end is about .25 longer. The I.D.'s and O.D.'s; hole size and location are +/- .003. It does fit. When I install it, the bottom (large diam.) is still above the main jet passage. Any reason it won't work?

Mike it might work but they actually used 3 differant model carbs on the old 650s depending on the serail number I guess it won't hurt to try it

Re: Need carb expert's advice

Thanx Laddies. The carb I got from the shop is from a 650, but it looks just like the carbs on a 500 in my garage. I took the screen off one of the 500 carbs so I could see the top portion of the nozzle. It appears to be the same diam. as the 650 nozzle. Do you think theres a chance it's the same? I'm going to see if I can get at it without going to all the trouble of removing the entire carb. But if you know (or think) they could be the same, it would probably be worth the time to take the carb off. Thanx again, Mike

I would hold out for an identical part,or a source that says this is tested and okay. The trouble with 'trying it' is if it doesn't work you may find out when the piston seizes.

DHP

Re: Need carb expert's advice

Thanx DHP. As you suggested, I was hoping that someone had done this with good results, no luck. Fortunately the 'new' part is too long, so I can cut it down to the right length. I was hoping to avoid that option. I don't have access to a mill, so I guess I can handle it with a cutoff wheel on a die grinder. I'm not having any luck finding an identical part. Thanx again, Mike

Re: Need carb expert's advice

I haven't worked up the nerve to modify the part just yet, hoping to get a little more input. I guess this reply is my way to "Bump"! Laddies, sorry to hear about the flu, hope you're over it soon. Thanx, Mike
