Need details on how to set accel pump lever for 50cc on 2300 Holley

Have a marine 2300 Holley w/50cc accel pump with the red cam (also have the correct lever for the 50cc pump). Everything I read for marine card adjustment says open throttle wide (WOT) and then check gap between arm and piston so that you don't overextend the pump. Meaning at WOT, the pump lever should almost be at maximum travel of pump. However, at WOT, I still have a good distance to travel before the pump lever bottoms out, I know to adjust the spring/piston but the screw is not long enough to give travel as far as it needs to go to set the lever as per others in the forum. I hope this is clear but I am really confused as to why I cannot adjust my pump lever as per all the instructions listed. Please ask any questions to get clarification and thanks for the help.
