Need directions for removing a mercruiser model 898 motor from boat

Need help finding directions for removing a mercruiser motor from my boat. I have a 1977, 305, I/O, chevy motor that needs rebuilt and it needs to come out asap. Kinda new to the boat scene and just don't have the money to pay to have it done. All help and pointers will be appreciated immensely. Thanks in advance, Mike

Welcome to iboats!

You NEED to get an OEM service manual. Someone should be along in a few min with a link to download one!

The sequence of events is 1. Remove drive. 2. Remove engine. It's fairly simple!

unhook your gas line, wires, hoses. it's pretty straight forward on what is connected to the motor. like they said use the provided manual , but also take pics of wires and where they go. makes it alot easier when going back in. then loosen your front and rear mounts, make sure and either tape or catch the nuts under the front mounts ( I lost mine ). then pull the motor. good luck

Whats good, Fishing2 I also have a 1977 305 with a mercruiser 898. The guy that doing my new stringers needs me to remove the Transom Plate in the morning. I have a Wellcraft Suncruiser 2000. What boat do you have?

I have a 22' Cruiser, by Mirro. Hope to get the motor rebuilt soon. Missing out on good walleye fishin right now. Mike
