I now am the proud owner of an Evinrude 150. Model E150STLCOS. Ser. J0578076. I test drove the boat today and it ran well. The idle was a little high. I found what I think is the problem. On the right side of the engine is the spark advance lever and rod. The bushings that attach the rod seem to be worn, and the rod seems to be the incorrect one. It looks to be very short and almost hand bent. The angle of the rod is binding everything up. With the rod disconnected the timer base seems to move freely. The rod P/N is 0330116. It has been discontinued. Can anyone send me a lead as to where I may get one? Thanks

This is a pic of the spark advance rod off my E150STLCU that I bought new. It should be identical to the one on your motor...whick is a 1985. They are about 2 inches long are look to be bent out of shape when they are not. Replace the ball and socket (2) and I bet your problem will be fixed.

Ok, replaced the ball/socket assembly and no help. I was infact mistaken, the timer base is very stiff in movement. When the throttle is advanced to the stop, the advance arm spring will not pull the timer base to the full advanced positon against the stop. It feels "gummed" up for lack of a better discription. Any thing that yall feel safe with spraying up on the timer base to help free it a little. I have not gotten anything in there yet.
