Need Don or Chrises Help yikes advise please

Hi guys ....I was working on my alpha 1 and pulled the bearing carrier out to replace the seals. carrier came out relatively easy...problem is reverse gear and thrust washer is still in the housing, in other words I pulled the reverse gear right off the bearing, I assume the thrust washer is frozen to the housing. I have PB Blaster soaking on it right now, any ideas how to get this out, I cant get a slide hammer in and don't think you could get between the gear and washer anyway.

if you can rotate the gearcase on your stand turn it so the open/prop end is facing somewhat downward

then heat the case to get it to expand and use a bent pick tool to get at the bearing to try and wiggle it out, once it comes be careful not to let the gear/bearing assy crash on the floor

it takes a bit but stick with it, you'll get it

I've only had a couple do that. I turned the drive stand so the prop shaft pointed to the floor ( put a box of packing material under it). Then heated the area and tapped with a hammer handle and they both came loose and fell into the packing.

thanks guys I will give that a try....I thought about heat but not turning unit upside down...I will need to replace the bearing now that it was removed from the gear correct?

Just an update, boy it worked like a charm... Heated the housing up and spun it upside down wiggled the prop shaft and out they came.

How did you heat the housing?
