Does anyone know where I can get a electric fuel pump (the one inside the vapor separator) for a 2000 mercury 200 hp EFI? Mercury parts express wants to sell me the whole banana for $900. I just need the electric pump....... Are they really this high?

i am curious if you have occured any other problems with this motor. i have a 2001 200 merc 200efi purchased brand new. they have had to replace 2 powerheads with a total of only 138 hours. they have attributed the lastest failure to a faulty fuel pump pressure. i did not get any indications other than the motor shaking at idle.

mistylady

Thanks guys... 2000 mercury 200 EFI sn# OT144092.
Mistylady I sure don't want to here that. I just picked this thing up after sitting for two years in a barn. The motor has about 15 hours on it, but I cannot get it to stay running (no gas). Anyway I am checking off everything per manual and bam.....fuel pump just clicks. one click every 3-5 seconds. Pulled pump out and still cannot get it run and hummmmmm. My other 200's are great. This is my first EFI.

Re: Need EFI fuel pump (big electric) 200 merc

I just went through the same thing with a 150 EFI. The electric fuel pump in the VST was stuck along with all the injectors. I filled up the VST with Sea Foam and also placed some down the hose coming from the pump. After about 24 hours the pump broke loose and started working. Then I had to remove the fuel system to clean the injectors. Took the injectors out and put sea foam down the top. Using a 9 volt battery you can check if they are opening. None of mine did. After a couple of hours of soaking they started to open and spray great.

BushCat,
Just checked, #809088T1 Fuel pump kit $610.25 list.Wow.I'd try BigTBassman's idea first.Beyond that,if it is a bad pump, maybe a shop that rebuilds marine starters can help.

DHP

Thanx guys, I am a believer of SeaFoam.... Check all my seafoam posts.... I think I will soak it the magic juice and see if it will work. I have not got to the injectors yet. Post back later with results.....

BushCat,

While doing other things,I came across a Mercury/Mariner service bulletin that fits your motor AND problem to a T.It's number 2002-20,and addresses pumps not working after extended storage.I don't know the site that will let you see this bulletin, but I'm sure someone here can let us know.I think the site is Master Tech, maybe? Or maybe try your local dealer, and offer to purchase the cleaning chemicals from them. It's very similar to Bassman's treatment.

DHP

Re: Need EFI fuel pump (big electric) 200 merc

Thanks DHP....Your an Admiral. I will pursue it immeadiately. There is a little "rust ring" around the pump at a 45' angle, most likely from being stored Motor tilted. Anyway I threw it in some SeaFoam last night and I will fire it up over the weekend [hopefully]. I have given enough to the Fish God in the last few years, so maybe I will come out of this one. When we retire, you and I need to build these electric pumps for side cash......
BushCat clear back to 16.

Re: Need EFI fuel pump (big electric) 200 merc

Allright guys.... I am rolling, but it wasn't pretty. Soaked it for 3 days (even heated it up to about 125') but nothing. I then "uncrimped" both ends of the pump carefully, then slid it all apart. Cleaned it all up and carefully put it all back together, recrimped the ends, and she is humming like new.... I guess now we se how long it lasts. It only has about 15 hours on it since new, so I am hoping for the best. It looks pretty shadetree on the ends, but it is working perfectly........thanks for everyones help. If it would have been 150-200 bucks, I would have run up the road and got one, but now I have some beer and gas money.
BushCat clear back to 16....

I would sure liked to have seen the inside of that pump. I can't believe that Mercury gets $700 for one. Let us know how long she lasts.

Re: Need EFI fuel pump (big electric) 200 merc

The inside of the pump was pretty clean with a bunch of little turpentine balls throughout. I must admit that the pump itself is built to the hilt, but I don't think it should be more than 200-300 bucks. I bet Sierra will have one available pretty quick. I think that the pumps tolerances and clearances are so tight, that any contaminates will clog it (just keeps armateur from spinning). We see how many hours she will run now.
I am opening a fuel pump rebuild shop......
