My engine case (carb side that holds the crank in) has a crack in it. If I can't epoxy or weld it I am considering replacing the case. EDIT. Thanks.

May we ask why it has a crack in the first place?

That's the million dollar question, I have no idea ? I guess it is some sort of stress crack. It could be a fault in the casting.

If you have described the crack correctly, the area where it is has no load from bearing support. it simply needs to be sealed for pressure and vacuum. I did a repair once where a rod had knocked out a small chunk from the side. Filled the hole with epoxy and she was good to go. So, epoxy may be a viable repair but welding is the only sure fix. You need a GOOD welder because the case is thin there and it is easy to punch right through with the mig or tig gun.

A good welder will charge you a pretty penny so if the block is off the leg anyway, you might be better off buying a used one--if you can find it cheap enough.

My first reaction would be to try a really high quality epoxy though. Industrial strength, not any stuff you get a auto stores or Wal-Mart.

Well it's done, engine removed used Marine Tex gray epoxy (basically coated the whole crank side of the case where the hairline crack was) and put it back together tonight. Actually was real easy to remove powerhead and re-install I would'nt hesitate to do it again. 6 bolts (1 allen head that required 1/4 turn at a time) 2 front motor mount bolts, and 2 lower motor mount bolts plus 2 vertical bolts from the bottom. My nephew was able to lift it off and on by himself.

Re: NEED ENGINE CASE FOR 1998 75hp FORCE

so I took it out for a test run last weekend and she started right up, runs smooth at full throttle 5200 rpm's but I noticed when idling and just above idle going down the canal it runs real rough I suspect that maybe the carb needs to be adjusted now that if in fact the crack was fixed there is no additional air getting into the case etc. Can I adjust the cab while in the water and most importantly what is the procedure and specs to do so ? single carb.
