Re: need fish finder

I just bought a Humminbird 728 that I really like. It just has a black and white screen, 3 presets, duel frequency amongst many other options. It's GPS capable(sorta). If you want a good built-in GPS unit, this ones not for you. This unit will meet your needs and then some........

You didn't say what your budget was, but I just bought a Humminbird 788ci. I have only had the boat out one time since I installed it, and that was not a fishing trip, but it seemed to be working very well. I did idle through a couple of places where fish are known to frequent, and it was marking fish. I also bought the Navionics maps and they seem like they will be very helpful too. I don't know how useful the dual SD card slots are going to be. One slot is for the Navionics maps and the other can be used for recording your own data. I guess if you find a spot that works for you, you can mark it and save the data onto the SD card in the other slot. Then use the GPS to navigate right to the exact spot. Stuff like that. Time will tell.

It almost sounds like you will only have one or two lakes that you will be going to. If that is the case, then the 788 will most likely be overkill.
