I'm running a 95 ranger r70 with a 90 horse johnson and would like to know the best way to gain more speed other than upping the horses. How much difference would a jack plate or stainless prop make? If anyone is running this same set-up
with a 130 horse i would like to know top speed.
Mine is only running around 41-42

Re: need for speed

Let us know what top RPM you can get with an average load and what prop size and style and we can calculate theoretical speed and slip. Lets establish a baseline and go from there.

Good luck!

likely, you can get a couple more mph with a stainless prop of good quality. sounds like your right in your operating range. how fast is enough?

Re: need for speed

At 41 MPH you are at 10% slip which is great. You need to get the RPM up to gain speed, lift, reduced drag, holeshot and engine life. A quality stainless prop (like Stiletto or Turbo) will allow you to do that.

Good luck!
