Where in the Hudson Valley? There are some good mechanics in the Lake George area but VERY costly and tough time of the year to get something done quick.

What is your motor in need of? More than likely someone here can help.

Re: need good inline tech

Thanks for answering.I was in lake george 3 weeks ago and went to the marinas and they said motor is to old and they can't get parts. My motor is a 1979 115inline.the engine runs great i just wanted someone to check the timing and other adjustments.I read the link and sync FAQ and had to many questions to take on by myself.I live near the Newburgh area of the hudson.I'm going back to lake George in 2 weeks to catch my salmon and when i get back i wanted engine to get checked.if anyone is in the area who knows there stuff it would be a great help.I'm a machine tech for a living and i have rebuild motorcycle engines but with these inlines it sound like if something is off and not done perfect the pistons melt. help...............

I bet if you get a service manual, you can perform most services just as well as a tech would. Most of it is pretty basic stuff and well within the reach of a mechanically inclined person. If it's running good now, you're most of the way there. The inlines are tough engines...

I have 2 service manuels and work on the basic stuff. My question is can i check timing just the way it is without disconnecting the throttle cable like the FAQ says to do?When you remove all the plugs but #1 and put a timing light on it do you crank the motor with the throttle opened fully to see where timeing max advance is?thanks for the help your about to give

You check the timing at cranking speed. It does not have to be started. You disconnect the throttle and work it by hand to get max advance.
