Did maintenance on cleaning carbs, rebuilt fuel pump and new impeller and gaskets for water pump. I synced the carbs and adjusted idle screw as stated in manual. The problem is I hear a light ticking noise by fuel pump and with a load the motor won’t go past 1200-1500 RPM. It lugs out and dies but with no load I have no issues. Any suggestions on what to checkout?

Welcome aboard.

Was the motor running better before the work?

Got the serial number?

Do a compression test first.-----Then look for strong spark on all leads.----" strong " spark will jump a gap of 3/8" or more.

Serial number is - OT701506. Boat was running good but would starve for fuel once I got to 4000RPM. And would lug down after 3-5 Seconds. Found the problem later on which was a plastic keeper stuck in fuel filter. The one holds the clean plastic part that acts as a check valve in fuel pump. Replaced everything correctly on the fuel pump and carbs. Really positive on that. The only things I can think of is linkage to oil maybe too much? Idle screws backed out 1.5 as the manual says, should I adjust more? Or if I didn’t quite get the lower unit on correctly. But wouldn’t this keep the boat from going in forward or reverse. Thanks for the replies.

have you tried pushing tha enrichner circuit when it acts up?.. did you install "new gaskets" inside and out with carb "cleaning"?.. is your manual an OEM or aftermarket?

OEM Manuel. I believe I put a 3/8 fuel tube on the fuel pump instead of 5/16. Maybe the noise is the pump starving for fuel? I will try out a new hose this morning. Does that sound about right the constant ticking would be the pump over working for fuel?

Sound like you have problem in fuel pump as it easy to reassemble incorrectly or over tension the rivets, also gasket behind pump could be leaking.

mixture screws have no effect on the engine at that rpm/ if this is oil injection LEAVE IT BE!! L/U Not your problem...compression results?
