Look closely at the terminals on that shift switch. One is marked "F" for forward, the other is marked "R" for reverse.

Green wire from the wiring harness connects to the "F" terminal.

Blue wire from the wiring harness connects to the "R" terminal.

Voltage wire connects from the "A" terminal of the ignition switch to the remaining terminal of that shift switch.

i got another ? for you i need help with starting my boat motor . i have a box with all the wires going to it and it have the cylinoid in it. i turn the key and nothing happen there are 3 wires a heavy green and a heavy brown one and a small brown one with a fuse do not know where they go. on the cylinoid there are 4 nut on it 1 left 2 in the center and 1 on the right. when i take a wirer and tuch the right one and the center one on the left side and tune the key the starter will move slow and the cylinoid will pop like crazy.but when i take the wirer and jump the cylinoid to the right side and the center one next to it the starter will move like it spost to and the motor will start up. so what do i need to do to start the motor by the key.

If you have compression and spark on all four cylinders, suspect a fouled carburetor.
