A service manual will have a wiring diagram, which will come in handy if you plan on working on the motor yourself.

That's half the problem (everyone always says "buy the manual")... some people don;t like to get ripped off... plus these were 50 cents when printed... WTF?
Here is the one I have... hope it helps you.

Depends on whether or not you have a generator. If you do have one:

Black and black = M terminals (either one)

white = S (start) terminal

Brown goes to ammeter "Gen" terminal, then a jumper to ign switch Bat terminal.

Green goes to ammeter "Bat" terminal.

Several red wires, go to hot light, choke switch, shift switch. All connected to ign switch Acc terminal.

Red and white goes to choke switch.

gray??? should be tan, goes to hot light.

---------OR--------If you don't have a generator, and it is manual shift, then brown wire is not used, there is no ammeter, and the green wire goes to the ign switch Bat terminal. And no red wire to the shift switch because there isn't one.
